Tens of millions awaiting Gor Mahia, Tusker after sealing continental return

FKF Premier League (FKFPL) Champions Gor Mahia and Mozzart Bet Cup champions Tusker FC are set to receive tens of millions from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following their qualification for continental football.
Gor Mahia regained the FKFPL title from Police,, whom they lost it to in the 2024/25 season, and in turn marked a return as Kenya’s representatives in the CAF Champions League (CAF CL).
The Brewers, on the other hand, won the 2026 Mozzart Bet Cup following a 2-1 win over Police to not only end their 10-year wait for glory in the prestigious cup but also book a ticket to represent Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup (CAF CC).
With their anticipated participation in continental football, the two Kenyan giants are set to earn a minimum of $100,000 (approximately Ksh12.9 million) from CAF.
The amount is termed by CAF as a solidarity allowance and paid to all clubs competing in the preliminary rounds of both CAF CL and CAF CC
The hefty millions come following CAF’s decision to double the allowance from the initial $50,000 (approximately Ksh6.45 million) since the just-concluded season.
CAF will disburse the amount to the clubs in two phases, half of it (Ksh6.45 million) before the commencement of the preliminary round, with the other half paid if the teams fail to qualify for the group stage.
The millions are part of CAF’s initiative to ease the heavy logistical and travel costs associated with CAF interclub competitions and a broader effort to boost the competitiveness and financial sustainability of African football competitions.
However, should the two teams make it to the group stage of their various competitions, more millions await them.
For the CAF CL group stage, Gor will earn a minimum of $700,000 (approximately Ksh90.3 million) if they make it to the group stage, while Tusker would earn a whopping $400,000 (approximately Ksh51.6 million).
