Super-expensive yet wasteful: Gyokeres and Isak and a grand total of 0 goals!

These remarks shouldn't offend Arsenal and Liverpool fans because no one says Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak are woeful players. On the contrary, we're talking about two top-notch strikers, and the fact that the Gunners and the Reds paid around 210,000,000 euros altogether for those two Swedish forwards in the last transfer window, tells how good they actually are.

However, when paired up on the national team, they not only do not excel, but their productivity has been below par.

The attacking duo Gyokeres - Isak has gone almost 300 minutes without scoring a goal in the World Cup qualifiers. The rest of the national side wasn't much better either, as they scored only two goals in the previous four matches.

First, they drew in Slovenia, then lost twice to the so-called Kosovo, before a 2-2 defeat against Switzerland. A single point in the four opening games, and a deserved place at the bottom.

"It's unacceptable to lose at home against an opponent of such calibre. We had chances, but we didn't use them. I include myself, I missed several great opportunities. This defeat forces us to look in the mirror and react quickly," Isak said after losing to Kosovo*.

"The opponent defended fiercely and managed to punish our mistakes. It hurts because we were the favourite, but it's all part of football. We'll come to the next training session even hungrier for success," concluded Gyokeres.
