A quick-fire double from Liam Mandeville and Lee Bonis in the 31st and 34th minutes was all seventh-placed Chesterfield needed, as they made sure to open up a sizeable gap on Grimsby in the last of four playoff spots to four points.
Grimsby offered some hope when they scored four minutes before the break through the all-action Jaze Kabia, but that close-range finish ended up only as a consolation, after the visitors spurned a penalty at the death.
David Artell’s side, seemingly edging close to a defeat, were handed a chance to grab a point when Justin Amaluzor won a spot-kick in the 95th minute, but Reece Staunton saw his effort saved by home goalkeeper Ryan Boot.
Oduor, who made his return to Harambee Stars last month, was making his third straight start for Grimsby, after logging 76 and 67 minutes against Crewe and Crawley, respectively.
In his 68 minutes on Tuesday, the 26-year-old made 23 total touches, completed 67 per cent of his passes, and won 60 per cent of his ground duels.
Obiero's struggles continue
Elsewhere in the English National League, Kenyan forward Micah Obiero was relegated to the bench as his Wealdstone side rescued a point against Boston United at Grosvenor Vale in London.
Obiero, 25, had been on a run of four straight starts before being named as a reserve on Tuesday, and ended up unused.

The scenario extended Obiero’s tough spell in April, a month in which he has failed to find the net, despite scoring eight goals in March.
Visitors, Boston took the lead in the 69th minute through a Jacob Hazel penalty, before Wealdstone responded with a last-minute equaliser from Olufela Olomola to settle for a 1-1 draw.
Wealdstone, after 44 matches this season, find themselves stuck in the middle of the 24-team standings in 12th on 55 points.
