Extraordinary situations require extraordinary measures – Roberto De Zerbi is trying to lift his team with the help of a psychologist
Tottenham Hotspur have announced job openings for sports psychologists as the club faces a serious results crisis, with coach Roberto De Zerbi stressing the need for a “change of mentality” within the squad.
The Spurs, who have gone 15 consecutive Premier League matches without a win, have dropped into the relegation zone. They currently sit 18th, two points behind West Ham—who are just above the line—with only five games left in the season.

Roberto De Zerbi, the club’s third manager this season, took charge at the end of March but has managed just one point from his first two matches. The Italian coach has emphasized his task is to instill the “right mindset” in the players, and the club now appears to be taking steps to support that mission.
In a job posting on LinkedIn, Tottenham revealed they are looking for an “exceptional performance psychologist” for the men’s team, aimed at providing “evidence-based psychological support to elite players.”
The role, the advertisement explains, includes individual player support, integrated work with coaching and performance staff, and the ongoing development of a psychologically informed performance culture across the squad.
The club is seeking someone “credible, discreet, and highly effective in a Premier League environment, capable of building trust with players and coaches, and operating with the professional rigor expected at the highest level of the game.”
Alongside the position for the men’s team, the London club has also launched a recruitment process for a sports psychologist for the women’s team.
The poor form is clearly affecting the squad. After a 1–0 defeat to Sunderland, defender Micky van de Ven admitted the losing streak has been “mentally difficult” to deal with and that the players are “suffering.”

Tottenham’s last Premier League win dates back to 28 December, away at Crystal Palace. At home, they have not won in the league since 6 December 2025, when they defeated Brentford.
