Soy will face Bumbani on Wednesday, 8 October, at Dandora Stadium, with the winner sealing the final slot in this season’s second-tier.

The two sides qualified for the playoffs as runners-up in their respective FKF Division One zones. Bumbani finished second to Kabati Youth in Zone A, while Soy United were edged out by Gucha Stars in Zone B.

Speaking ahead of the match, Odongo said his squad had recovered from the disappointment of missing direct promotion and were now mentally ready for the task at hand.

“I have one of the best squads and they are adapting quickly,” Odongo told Mozzart Sport.

Mentally, they were a little disturbed because they were ready to play in the second tier. When the playoffs came, it caught them off guard. But they have since adjusted and are now in the right frame of mind.”

The former KCB FC assistant coach, who has also previously handled Kakamega Homeboyz, expressed confidence in his team’s chances, citing his experience in similar situations.

It’s not something new for me because I have played in the playoffs before with Wazito, where we beat Migori Youth in the Promotion/Relegation tie to stay up,” he said.

In the playoffs, there are no two ways, we want to play in the NSL and we must win.”

Odongo also praised the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) for organising the playoff early, saying it gave his side a quick chance to refocus.

“I thank the federation for setting up this playoff as early as possible because we had already been planning for life in the NSL. This game has kept us well prepared.

The tactician called on Soy United’s supporters to rally behind the team as they look to make history.

We will need the fans in big numbers. Let them come early on Wednesday and show love to the players.”

Should Soy win and secure promotion, it will mark their return to the NSL for the second time, having previously featured in the league during the 2020/21 season.
