Pirates are reportedly keen on landing Onyango.

Kenyan international Joash Onyango has once again been linked with a move to South African giants Orlando Pirates with his contract Simba set to expire in August.

Onyango with Wekundu wa Msimbazi for the last two years and has been a cog in the team’s backline winning two league titles with the club. He has also been key for them in the continental stage, reaching last season’s CAF Champions League quarter final stage before they were tossed out by finalists, Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa.

With his contract expiring, a number of sides are keen on luring the Kenyan international away from Simba and one of the sides interested in his signature are the nine-time South African champions, Orlando Pirates.

Pirates have been tracking Joash for months now and have reportedly tabled a good offer for the former Gor Mahia and Western Stima defender. If he accepts it, he will join Teddy Akumu (Kaizer Chiefs) and Brian Mandela (Mamelodi Sundowns) in the Premier Soccer League.

Simba will however try to renew Onyango’s contract. An earlier report on Mwanaspoti indicated that Onyango had tabled huge demands for Simba if he were to continue with the club beyond the current season.

“The discussion between Simba SC and Onyango has not reached any agreement over a contract extension. The player has told Simba SC that he is ready to sign a new contract and wants Ksh5 million sign-on fee and Sh550, 000 per month,” Mwanaspoti quoted a source close to the player’s camp.

Onyango played for the now defunct sides West Kenya Sugar and Western Stima before moving to Gor Mahia at the end of 2016. After two and a half seasons with Gor, he moved to Simba. He is a full Kenyan international and was part of the Kenya team at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt although he did not feature in any of the three group games due to injury.
