Onyango believes that Sofapaka has what it takes to maintain their league status and salvage what has otherwise been a poor campaign for his team.

Sofapaka FC’s young marksman Jacob Onyango is a happy man after helping his team win the first leg of the promotion/relegation playoffs, easing the burden and increasing their chances of survival in the FKF Premier League.

Onyango's goal made all the difference in what was generally a dull match. He collected a cross from the left flank, controlled it, turned, and struck the ball into the back of the net to give Sofapaka an important victory.

Onyango was brought on in the seventh minute of the second half to replace the injured Darius Msagha. He did an excellent job, pressing the Naivas backline, putting them under pressure, and holding up play for his side.

“The first half was tougher because we allowed them to play from the back without pressure. In the second half, we pressed them high, forced them to make mistakes, and in the end, capitalized on one of the opportunities,” said Onyango.

Coming into the second half, Onyango was determined to make an impact and help his team. He was ready and confident in himself.

“As a striker, you always have to be ready for action at any moment. This was a crucial game, and I was determined to help the team when called upon. It's a playoff, and in such matches, every goal is important. I am just glad that I scored the goal that gave my team the win. I hope we will emerge victorious even in the second leg,” he added.

Onyango believes that Sofapaka has what it takes to maintain their league status and salvage what has otherwise been a poor campaign for his team.

“We have been in the Premier League since we got promoted in 2009, and so we can't just let go of it easily. We will have to do whatever it takes and fight for our place.”

Onyango will be hoping to help his team once again when the two teams meet for the second leg on Sunday, 14th July, at Dandora Stadium.
