The battle-hardened defender, who can also play right-back, boasts massive international experience

Kenyan top-flight outfit Sofapaka are keen on a reunion with central defender David Nshimirimana, who can also slot comfortably into the right-back role, Mozzart Sport understands.

Nshimirimana left Batoto Ba Mungu last year upon the expiry of his contract. However, the club appears keen on reuniting with the player, who spent the second phase of the 2023–2024 season with Rwanda Premier League side Bugesera.

Sofapaka will need to resolve a player transfer ban to see the deal materialize. Two Burundian players, Fiston Razak and Moussa Omar, took the club to FIFA, citing a breach of their contractual terms, resulting in the embargo.

After an unimpressive campaign last term, Batoto Ba Mungu are bolstering their squad in readiness for a new lease of life under the experienced Robert Matano.

The arrival of highly experienced talent from the South will give them more confidence heading into the new campaign.

Nshimirimana's arrival is expected to seal the loopholes in the club’s defence, which conceded the second-most goals in the league last season behind Nzoia Sugar, who allowed 60 goals.

The battle-hardened defender, who can also play right-back, boasts massive international experience, having featured for Zambia's Buildcon.

The 31-year-old holds more than 30 caps for the Burundi national team and was part of the Swallows squad that participated in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Nshimirimana has previously played for Rwandan football giants Mukura Victory and Vital’O in his native Burundi. He joined Sofapaka in 2021 from Zambia.

Sofapaka are expected to reinforce their squad following the departure of key players who starred for them last season.

Currently, Matano’s charges are deep into preseason sessions, where the gaffer is picking and preparing his arsenal for the 2023–2024 campaign.
