Akwana will now lead the team temporarily until the club names their new head coach.
The FKF Premier League coaching axe has claimed its second casualty just five minutes into the new season after Sofapaka decided to part ways with Burundian Francis Haringingo.
The tactician’s fate was sealed on Saturday when his team suffered its fourth straight defeat after going down to the Nairobi City Stars at the Kasarani Annex.
The result left them rock bottom in the FKF Premier League log with just one point earned from the opening day’s one-all draw against Gor Mahia at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.
The former Rayon Sports coach had in certain terms been told to beat Simba Wa Nairobi, but when Kelvin Etemesi and Vincent Owino’s goals compounded the 2009 league champions' 2-1 defeat, it was clear to the soft-spoken tactician that his fate was sealed.
“The coach has left; he had to win against the City Stars or face the sack. He did not even attend the church service with the rest of the squad on Sunday, as is the norm, because he was given his marching orders on Saturday. He has largely been unlucky because it’s the minor details that have been derailing the team; I think he has also been unlucky in most of the games that we have lost,” a source from the Batoto ba Mungu camp told Mozzart Sport.
Signs that changes were imminent at the club started showing last week when the club parted ways with technical director David Ouma, who was their head coach last season, and brought in their former head coach Ezekiel Akwana as the club’s second assistant coach in the wake of the defeat to Ulinzi Stars a week ago.
Akwana will now lead the team temporarily until the club names their new head coach.
