Akwana has kept a low since leaving Murang'a Seal in February
The 2009 league champions Sofapaka have reunited with coach Ezekiel Akwana after the former player was handed the second assistant coaching duties at the club.
Akwana is not new to the Sofapaka set up as he previously served the club as a stand-in head coach more than a decade ago.
Sofapak President Elly Kalekwa confirmed that the club had procured Akwana’a expertise at a time when the outfit finds itself trying to smart out of the rock bottom of the FKF PL log.
“I can confirm that Akwana is our second assistant coach. He is not new to us as he has worked with us before,” confirmed Kalekwa.
Sofapaka hired Burundian Francis Haringingo and Pablo Nduwimana as head and assistant coaches respectively before the current season began.
At the same time, the club elevated former coach David Ouma who served as the boss last season to the rank of technical director. Ouma was deputized by Paul Ogai last season.
Kalekwa says the poor start the club has had this season forced him to add more experience in the technical bench.
He dismissed a suggestion insinuating that the arrival of Akwana would render the foreign coaches jobless.
“We are not happy with the results the team has gotten so far in the season. It is the reason we brought in Akwana. He will work with the other two coaches,” added Kalekwa.
The club administrator revealed that Akwana was firmly in their plans even before bringing the Burundian coaches o board.
Sofapaka are yet to win a game this season as the club has lost three duels and shared points once.
