The match week began with a clash between Nairobi United and Posta Rangers on Friday, 12 December, as the curtains fell with an encounter between Tusker and Sofapaka.
Mozzart Sport covered all nine league matches and compiled a summary of six lessons learned across the matches.
Pressure mounting on Akonnor
Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor is a man under the cosh after once again failing to secure three points for the third consecutive match.
Despite taking a first-half lead through Ebenezer Adukwaw, K’Ogalo were held to a 1-1 draw by a struggling Bandari FC that was without a head coach.

The draw came on the back of two consecutive losses against APS Bomet and AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji Derby, with a section of the club’s supporters now calling for the ouster of the Ghanaian tactician.
With the Green Army still nursing the heartbreak of a trophyless 2024/25 season, the fans have demonstrated impatience this season, and the former Black Stars coach must find a winning formula if he is to stay at the club longer.
Lack of lethal strikers in the league
After 13 rounds of matches, we can confidently say that the league lacks clinical strikers.
This can easily be demonstrated by the fact that with only four matches to the end of the first leg, the league's leading goal scorer has scored only five goals.
Last season, Ryan Ogam, then turning out for Tusker FC, only needed seven matches to hit double figures and by the 13th match, he had already found the back of the net 15 times before suffering a long-term injury.
As it stands, we are likely to have no player with double-digit goals by the end of the first leg, and the top scorer might have less than 12 goals at the end of the season.
Goalkeeping howlers becoming a common trend
In what is now increasingly becoming a worrying trend, Sofapaka goalkeeper Edward Olak registered yet another goalkeeping howler in the team’s 2-0 loss to Tusker FC.
Batoto ba Mungu had held the 12-time league champions to a barren draw until the 70th minute when Ian Simiyu picked a ball near the byline, and brought in what looked like a harmless cross, but as Olak went to collect the ball, it stunningly slipped through his hands and legs and into the back of the net.
The blunder has been one of the biggest talking points from stakeholders and attracted all forms of speculation.

Sofapaka have since suspended Olak and his goalkeeper coach, former Harambee Stars custodian Wilson Obungu.
Apart from the goal conceded against Tusker, Olak was also in the spotlight after their match against Ulinzi for dilly-dallying on a backpass that was snatched by Paul Okoth, who netted the Soldiers' second goal in a match Sofapaka lost 3-1.
Sharks staring down relegation barrel
2018 Mozzart Bet Cup champions Kariobangi Sharks' woes continued after they suffered a 2-0 loss to Mara Sugar FC at the Awendo Green Stadium on Saturday, 13 December.

Known for providing opportunities to young talents, the William Muluya-coached side are having their worst season since their promotion to the top flight in 2017, as they have only eight points from 12 matches.
With the average points of survival being 35, Sharks do not seem capable of achieving that this season if something drastic does not change and are the most likely candidates to face the chop at the end of the season.
Naibois blunt attack
Nairobi United are in a crisis upfront as the team continues to struggle to convert chances into goals.
Naibois were held to a 1-1 draw by Murang'a Seal in a match that was characterised by wasted opportunities from the Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja-backed side.

For a team that was free-scoring just before the November international break, coach Nicholas Muyoti celebrated the fact that they scored one goal in five matches, pointing to their blunt attack
The rise and rise of Isaa Emuria
While his colleagues have been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons, Bidco United goalkeeper Issa Emuria continues to impress in every match week.

The shot-stopper makes Bidco a better team with a good command of his defense line, calmness under pressure, the ability to collect cross balls and most importantly, making saves when needed.
The custodian was once again dependable as Bidco held Mathare United to a goalless draw and recorded his seventh clean sheet, the highest in the league alongside Job Ochieng.
