Rupia was the best scorer in the 2022-2023 FKFPL season
Kenya Police will have to do without the services of their reliable striker Elvis Rupia going forward, as the striker who was last season’s top scorer has joined Singida Fountain Gate FC in Tanzania.
Rupia was in a class of his own last season as he netted 27 league goals for the law enforcers and picked up where he left off during the pre-season friendly matches, netting in back-to-back duels against Singida and Namungo.
Sources close to the player indicate that, Singida tabled an irresistible offer and went on to break the bank in order to secure his release from Police.
With the striker’s name in the Harambee Stars provisional squad for the forthcoming friendly matches against Qatar and South Sudan, he is expected to cross the border after the FIFA international week.
Kenya will take on Qatar on September 7 2023, and South Sudan at home on September 12, 2023.
“Singida approached him with a good offer and have also bought out his contract as he had 18 months left. He is practically their player now and will move to Tanzania after the international break,” the source told Mozzart Sport.
Police appeared to have been preparing for the exit of the former Nzoia Sugar man as the club recently signed South Sudan striker Tito Okello.
Okello joined Police as a free agent after parting ways with Iranian top-flight side Paykan FC at the end of last season.
The latest development means that Singida will have three Kenyan internationals within their ranks, as the club had earlier signed Duke Abuya and Joash Onyango.
Abuya joined the outfit on loan from Police, as did Onyango, who was also acquired on similar terms from former Tanzanian Premier League champions Simba.
Singida sailed past the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup after edging JKU 6-1 on aggregate. They beat JKU 4-1 in the first leg and secured a 2-0 win in the return leg played last weekend.
Rupia joined Police in February last year from Saudi Arabian side Bisha FC.
