The former Nzoia Sugar forward was named Man of the Match following Tusker’s dominant display in the final played on Sunday, 14 June, at Kwale Stadium, where he struck a decisive first-half brace to inspire a 2-1 victory.

His goals came either side of an Abud Omar free-kick as Tusker ended their 10-year wait for Mozzart Bet Cup glory, sealing a memorable night for both the club and the forward.

Beyond the MVP honor, Simiyu emerged as one of the biggest individual winners of the tournament, walking away with Ksh200,000 for his standout performances, a personalized trophy, and an additional Ksh150,000 after being named the best midfielder of the 2026 edition.

Despite the accolades, the forward has chosen to channel part of his reward back to his roots, confirming that the humanitarian grant will go to his former club, Nzoia.

I will take the humanitarian award to Nzoia Sportiff. It is the team that helped in developing my talent, and I believe this is another way of giving back to them,” Simiyu said.

His journey to the top has not been without challenges. The Tusker attacker admitted that his first season at the club was difficult as he adjusted to a new tactical role.

At Nzoia, I was playing as a number 10, but when I joined Tusker, I was played more on the wing, which made it a little difficult to adapt. Now I am deployed in a free role as a 10, which makes it easier,” he explained.

The shift in position eventually unlocked his best form, turning him into one of the most influential figures in Tusker’s cup-winning campaign and a standout performer in the tournament.

Coming from the National Super League (NSL) to lift one of Kenya’s most prestigious domestic trophies, Simiyu also took time to encourage young players chasing similar dreams.

“I would like to tell them to keep on believing and working hard. With those, things will just align,” he added.
