Before the South African legend announced the squad, stakeholders had began questioning his delay given that the tournament is just a month away.

Further the move by the neighbouring and other countries to name their squads earlier prompted Kenyans to pile pressure on the former Ajax striker to follow suit.

Last season's top scorer and Kakamega Homeboyz striker Moses Shumah headlines the squad released on Wednesday night.

Shumah finished the season with 17 goals, one ahead of FC Talanta's Emmanuel Osoro.

The duo is not new to the national team having impressed in the June FIFA International window, where Kenya played Chad twice in friendly matches.

Sofapaka forward Edward Omondi also earns a well deserved call up following a standout campaign for his club.

Kenya Police FC star boy Mohahammed Bajaber returns to the team after missing the past assignments against Chad due to an injury.

Meanwhile, Ulinzi Stars’ duo of Yakeen Muteheli and Staphod Odhiambo are among the fresh faces included in the squad.

The August tournament will mark Kenya’s debut, having failed to punch a ticket since the start of the showpiece in 2009.

While the country last featured in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where the team exited at the group stage, this time Harambee Stars will be eager to make a deeper run especially with the added motivation of playing on home soil.

The team set to join camp on July 10, 2025.

Kenya will kick off their CHAN 2024 campaign against DR Congo on 3 August at Kasarani Stadium, before taking on Angola, Morocco, and Zambia in the group stage.

For the first time in history, CHAN will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The tournament will run from August 2 to August 30, 2025, and promises to be a thrilling celebration of local football talent across East Africa.
