In a statement posted on their social media handles on Thursday, 4 December, the team assured fans that the project is firmly on track and progressing as planned.
The club’s Secretary General, Dr Elizaphan Kerama, revealed that the primary cause of the delay was the unavailability of a chassis that met the high specifications recommended by the President.
“Following a special request made to His Excellency, the President, to support the team in acquiring a decent and modern sports bus, His Excellency graciously accepted the request and facilitated the procurement process through East Africa Motors.
At the time, no chassis meeting the specifications recommended by the President were immediately available,” part of the statement read.
The bus required a specialised imported chassis designed for heavy, long-distance sports travel, a feature that temporarily slowed down the procurement phase.
Shabana now confirms that the chassis has arrived, and body construction has officially begun under Master Fabricators Ltd. The full build is expected to take between 60 and 90 working days.
The club also assured supporters that all financial obligations have been fully handled.
“All payments have been fully settled,” Kerama noted, adding that all relevant documents, including the job card, order form, and payment agreement, have been signed.
This renewed clarity comes on the back of President Ruto’s wider commitment to supporting Shabana FC, not only through the bus donation but also through his recent pledge to upgrade Gusii Stadium to international standards.
Speaking in Kisii earlier in November, the President announced plans to pave the way for an expanded, modern facility capable of hosting international matches.
During his Kisii tour on Saturday, 22 November, President Ruto openly criticised the current state of the stadium, stating that it does not reflect the stature of Shabana FC, a club with one of the most passionate fanbases in the country.
“This stadium is below standard, yet Kisii is home to one of the country’s biggest teams, Shabana,” he said.
Ruto revealed that the biggest hurdle to expanding the stadium has been the presence of the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK), which occupies about five acres of land within the stadium grounds.
To resolve this, he announced that 12 acres have already been identified elsewhere for the relocation of ASK, clearing the way for the facility’s expansion.
The President confirmed that a contractor is already on standby and that the national government is only waiting for the Kisii County administration to finalise the transfer paperwork.
“My team is already on site, and I am waiting for Governor Simba Arati to complete the necessary paperwork. The delays are holding us back,” he said.
