Seven players have been trimmed from the Junior Starlets’ provisional squad set to play Ethiopia in a two-legged FIFA U17 World Cup qualifier, with the first leg scheduled for Friday, May 10, 2024.

Among the names dropped from the 23-person squad are goalkeeper Mitchel Achieng from Brenda Girls, Butere Girls Secondary School defender Brenda Nechesa, Hilder Natecho, and Rose Nangila.

Others include the attacking quartet of Joy Angela Valencia, Slyvia Mukai, Patience Kasichana, and Peruce Elizabeth.

With the World Cup slots proving elusive for both the senior national men's and women's teams, coach Mildred Cheche will have a chance to deliver yet another historic moment for the country as the Junior Starlets enter the penultimate stage for the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s Qualifiers.

The second leg of the third round of the FIFA U17 World Cup Qualifiers will be played on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Ulinzi Sports Complex.

After the two legs, the tie winner on aggregate will proceed to the fourth and final round, where they will face either Djibouti or Burundi.

Following this match, the victor secures an automatic qualification to the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in October, to be held in the Dominican Republic

The team is set to depart for Ethiopia on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 6 pm and fly back home on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 1 am.
