Despite their financial strength and consistency in the top flight, KCB are yet to lift a major trophy. Their closest league attempt came in 2021 when they lost the crown to Tusker FC on the final day. In 2024, they suffered heartbreak in the Mozzart Bet Cup final, losing to Kenya Police FC in a post match shootout after a barren draw in regulation time. The wait for silverware goes on.

In a renewed bid to finally end that drought, the club turned to serial winner Robert Matano, who has since rebuilt the squad with proven and experienced players. Among them is Senaji, the versatile midfielder and defender who previously starred for Tusker FC and AFC Leopards.

The 27 year old joined KCB toward the close of the transfer window from Nyasa Big Bullets of Malawi, where he spent two successful seasons, captaining the side. His leadership qualities and experience are expected to play a key role in Matano’s pursuit of glory.

In an inetrview, Senaji made it clear that his ambitions match the club’s vision.

“The club has clear goals: to compete for silverware with the league as the main target, and that is why I am here,” he said. “I have won titles elsewhere, but it would be special to do the same with KCB because this is an exciting project. Everyone is working toward the same objective, and we will give everything to achieve it.”

On his decision to return home, Senaji revealed that KCB’s ambition and the presence of familiar faces made the move an easy choice.

“When I left Nyasa, I was open to returning to the Kenyan Premier League. What mattered to me was joining an ambitious project, and KCB matches that. Reuniting with coach Robert Matano and some former teammates has also made it easy to feel at home,” he explained.

He further stressed that he is not chasing personal milestones this season, instead prioritizing team success.

“I am not setting personal targets because the team’s goal of winning the league is what truly matters. I will give my best to help the club, and individual numbers will follow, but the most important thing is our success as a team.”

Senaji’s first test in KCB colours will come against his former employers, Tusker FC, the same side that denied the Bankers a league title in 2021.
