Martin Zubimendi has apparently agreed on a deal with the Gunners

Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign their long-term target Martin Zubimendi from La Liga side Real Sociedad, according to several reports on Saturday.

The Gunners were on the verge of inking Zubimendi even during the January Transfer Window, but he insisted on staying with his current club until the end of the season.

Now, Zubimendi has verbally agreed to sign a permanent deal with the north Londoners, as per Fabrizio Romano.

There are only a few formalities left, as Arsenal are ready to trigger the Spaniard's £51million release clause.

Zubimendi will be the first signing of the Gunners' new sporting director, Andrea Berta, who joined the club from Atletico Madrid in March following the sacking of his predecessor, Edu.

Zubimendi, 26, is a central midfielder and will definitely find his place in the starting XI following Jorginho's and Partey's probable exit at the end of the season.

He was one of the key players for Spain in their title-winning EURO 2024.

Zubimendi made a final decision to join Arsenal because he wants to play Champions League football. Sociedad sit in 11th place in La Liga and will miss out on European football next season.
