The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association Term2 Ball Games culminated on Saturday afternoon in Kakamega with focus now shifting to the East Africa School Games later this month in Rwanda. Here's my Boys Best XI from the tournament
St Anthony's Boys Kitale won their sixth national games title and it was the climax of the five day event that culminated talents from across eight regions in Kenya showcasing their skills in front of thousands of spectators and it is now time for the end of tournament standout performers to be named.
Naturally, the three consistent teams in the school competitions - St Anthony's Boys, Dagoretti High School and Friends School Shanderema - have the highest representation, as well as brilliant individual performers that impressed for their respective teams throughout the week.
Here is my team of the tournament
Morgan Kwena (Shanderema) - Goalkeeper
Kwena was arguably Shanderema's man of the moment in most instances and the standout goalkeeper in the entire tournament. He is especially very good in one on one situations.
He was incredibly influential in the Eagle's run in the tournament, keeping them in play in most of the matches.
Morgan showed maturity at his young age in commanding his territory coupled with his excellent ball distribution and ball gathering skills.
Brian Aruka ( St Anthony's Boys) - Rightback
Brian understood his role perfectly. He's equally good going forward as he provided two assists from the flanks. He also excelled defensively with his precision in tackling, interceptions and recoveries.
Fransic Mukutwa (Shanderema) - Leftback
His small body physique could have anyone ruling him out before he storms the field of and display what he has.
Mukutwa was instrumental in the Eagle's defense joining in attacks and winning one on one situations to keep them in play. His pace was an added advantage, as he joined the attacks and quickly retracted to aid in defending.
The form four candidate makes it to my team of the tournament.
Amos Wanjala (St Anthony's Boys) - Centerback
A hard tackler and a leader on the pitch - he anchored the Solidarity Boys defense that conceded the fewest goals in the five day event that is one goal in the whole tournament.
He also accomplished almost all aspects of a complete defender by his shot blocking technique, intercepting passes, contesting headers and marking forwards discouraging the opposing teams from passing to them and it really worked in the last four clash against Shanderema before excellently, neutralizing Dagoretti High School forwards in finals.
Hillary Odongo (Dagoretti) - Centerback
Odongo collaboration at the back with Daniel Wesonga proved essential in Nairobi's ambassadors run to the finals.
His solidity at the back and ability to block shots and join in attacks at some moments is what made me include him in the team of the tournament. You may struggle to recall a game the towering defender was dribbled past or outpaced in the five day event.
He is a traditional defender who can easily slot into the back line of any team that took part in the School ball games.
Dismas Ongocho (Dagoretti High School) - Central Midfielder
Ongocho was arguably the best player of the tournament for Dagoretti. He formed a solid partnership in the midfield with Dhour Kane making it difficult for opponents to penetrate through the centre of the field.
Apart from easily winning the ball back, he covered every blade of the field, also bailing out his defenders in several occasions.
Kelly Madada (Shanderema) - Central Midfielder
Not a tough pick here,he was the fan favourite in the Eagle's team with how he dictates play with his defense splitting passes.
Despite his age, his maturity and quality on the ball made him an important part of Kevin Asuba's team. His creativity impressed the thousands of fans who thronged the Bukhungu Stadium to follow the matches.
He finished the competition with four goals and three assists, quite impressive for a 16-year old boy.
Joseph Omuse (St Anthony's Boys) - Right Winger
Omuse performance kept shooting to new heights everytime he stepped on the field.
He does not lose possession easily and had an outstanding link between defense and attack.
He literally strengthened the team in its core and was constantly in a position to receive and pass the ball to initiate attacks.
Churchill Otieno ( Agoro Sare) - Left Winger
The Migori Youth attacker was far ahead of his peers in the team and definitely the best player in Agoro Squad.
Omondi spearheaded Agoro's national title hunt with his fearless forward runs from the right flank, creating chances and netting twice and assisting once for the Nyanza Region champions.
His dependability, fitness and consistency throughout the event cannot go unmentioned.
Aldrine Kibet ( St Anthony's Boys) - Attacking Midfielder
Kibet is definitely the talk of the town after the just concluded school games event.
He has netted 25 goals since the start of Solidarity Boys journey in school games this term and his double handed Solidarity a sixth national title.
His calmness and composure on the ball is one to admire coupled with a ability to dribble at high speed and an eye for goal.

He posses all the skills one may be looking for in an attacking player.
Kibet is my Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.
Maxwell Wamalwa (Shanderema) - Striker
In the absence of Shanderema top scorer Mark Shaban a new hero in Wamalwa was born and he totally understood the task netting five times for the East Africa Secondary Schools Games bound team and further assisted two more goals.
His pace and positioning is what really interested me in him in addition to composure while in the opponents box coupled with his shot power.
