Scaloni: We told Messi to play as long as he can

"It's impossible to describe the feeling when we watched him live in Qatar," says the Argentina coach

Lionel Messi has fulfilled his football mission on this planet. He won everything he could win. In his treasury are all possible trophies, and on the highest pedestal stands the World Cup trophy, which he took a year ago in Qatar in the jersey of the Argentine national team.

Although everyone expected him to retire from the national team after that, Messi continued to play for Argentina. And that has already led to the situation where they are persuading him to be in the squad for the next World Cup, which will be played in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Although the man who was supposed to decide the list of passengers for the big competition is coach Lionel Scaloni, even he told Messi that he would like for the no.10 to be there.

"We told Leo to play as long as he can. He showed that he can do a lot more, that he is not close to the end of his career. No one knows how long he will be on the field. He's amazing," Scaloni began the story in an interview with Christian Vieri on his Twitch show.

The coach of Argentina pointed out that Messi feels best when he is on the field.

"Leo is happy when he is on the football field. Outside of it, I think it's difficult to be Messi, because whenever he leaves the house, he is surrounded by many people. On the field, where the ball is, he feels the best".

Scaloni also talked about how Messi looked during the World Cup in Qatar.

"Everyone has always said that the World Cup is a special, exceptional experience for every footballer. And he was missing only that trophy. As amazing a player as he is, Messi played with all his heart in Qatar and that's why he was unstoppable. It's hard to explain what it feels like to watch him live. You have to experience it. If I told you the things he did in training, you wouldn't believe me. It's crazy."

One of the heroes from Qatar, Angel Di Maria, announced the end of his career after the Copa America next summer. Messi did not...

"I think Leo can still give a lot to the national team, but the final decision is up to him. He can play as long as he wants and the team will support him," said Lionel Scaloni.
