Salim Ali has been relieved off his duties as Mathare United head coach, but how did he perform while at it?
Salim Ali started his Mathare United tenure as head coach with a 0-0 draw against Bandari in August 2019. He built on to this draw to go for a 9 matches unbeaten run at the onset of the 2019/2020 campaign, picking up just 4 wins and 5 draws.
Coincidentally, his last game in charge of the team ended in a similar result as the Slum Boys were held to a barren draw by Vihiga United at Ruaraka Grounds on Sunday.
He had been confirmed to the position on 25 July, 2019, following the exit of Francis Kimanzi, who had left to handle the national team Harambee Stars assisting the then head coach Sebastien Migne.
Perhaps, judging by his track record, Salim's overstayed his welcome.
He was in charge of Mathare for 38 league games since his elevation almost two years ago and only managed to win 11 games from the 38. Get out your calculators! This translates to a paltry 29% win ratio, losing the bigger chunk of the matches.
He saw Mathare lose 37% and draw 34% of the matches, 14 and13 of the 38 games respectively

For 38 matches, he only managed to pick 46 points, averaging a point every game, dropping a good 68 points in the process.
Despite being a central defender during his playing days, Salim's team conceded 48 goals, 26 in the 2019/2020 campaign and 22 in the current campaign until his termination. How many did his team score under his stewardship? 45. Three less than what they conceded.
This season, from the 14 games played, Mathare have only managed 1 win - the 1-0 win against Nzoia United in February.
They have lost 9 times even without reaching the halfway point this season. Mathare have not lost such as many matches since the 2017 campaign where they lost 11. Unless the new coach, Frank Ouna, works magic they are en-route to surpassing that number this season.
