'Salah speaks only when he needs a new contract'

Former Liverpool defender had some harsh words for the Egyptian striker
Liverpool are shaken by an incredible run of poor results, rarely this visible in previous seasons. In the June transfer window, 482 million euros was spent, yet none of the new signings are performing well. They have blended into the team’s overall mediocrity, and it seems they won’t easily pull themselves out of it. Among the main reasons for the Reds’ decline is the poor form of Mohamed Salah. Unlike last season, the Egyptian is now a pale shadow of the man who wreaked havoc in the Premier League.
When that’s the case, he is not spared criticism, and one of those criticisms came from Jamie Carragher. The former Liverpool defender believes Salah should speak out more publicly, especially when things aren’t ideal — and especially given that he is one of the longest-serving players.
“A year ago, Mo Salah wasn’t so shy when talking about his situation and how the club hadn’t offered him a contract extension. I only hear him when he wins a Man of the Match award or when he needs a new contract. As one of the team’s leaders and a Liverpool legend, I’d like to see him step out publicly and speak on behalf of the team” Carragher said on Monday Night Football.
On the other hand, the only man willing to speak publicly is Virgil van Dijk, which is expected from someone wearing the captain’s armband.
“After the match against Nottingham Forest, Virgil came out in front of the media and spoke — that’s what a man of his status should do — but he’s the only player doing that. We don’t see anyone else. Surely there are others in the dressing room who should speak on behalf of the team and the club” Carragher added. Whichever way you look at it, nothing seems right. After a very good previous season, now everything Arne Slot has done is being questioned — some people are even calling for his resignation. But the problem isn’t only him. If the main cog in the machine isn’t working, it’s hard to expect the others to function properly — no matter how expensive they are.
