Rossoneri could save their calamitous season with a Coppa Italia triumph

AC Milan face Bologna at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Wednesday night (10 pm) to decide the cup winner

Milan have had a disappointing Serie A campaign and are eighth with only two games left, which means they'll probably be out of European competitions next season.

Therefore, tonight's Coppa Italia showdown against Bologna FC at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome (10 pm) is their last chance to redeem themselves and make this calamitous season a bit nicer.

Interestingly, even during the years and decades of their dominance in Italian football, the Rossoneri were quite sluggish in the domestic cup, lifting the trophy only five times (1967, 1972, 1973, 1977, 2003). The last time they won the Coppa Italia, the man who led them from the dugout was none other than Carlo Ancelotti.

However, 22 years have passed since then, and it's about time one of the most decorated clubs in Europe clinchs another silverware.

Luka Jovic is expected to win the race to lead Milan's frontline against Bologna along with Rafael Leao on the left wing and Christian Pulisic on the opposite flank in support of Jovic.

Youssouf Fofana should be also back in midfield, while Alex Jimenez is set to keep Kyle Walker on the bench once again, as the Englishman is reaching the end of his short Milan spell.

The two sides met on Friday at San Siro, only in a Serie A game, and it ended in a 3-1 victory for Sergio Conceicao's men.
