The Tribunal has now stayed the decision by the Leagues and Competitions Committee dated October 25
Beleaguered National Super League (NSL) side Migori Youth FC have been handed a reprieve after the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) directed that they be included in the league fixtures pending the hearing and determination of their appeal at the tribunal.
Last week, FKF’s Leagues and Competitions suspended league matches involving the Migori County-based club after they moved to the tribunal to challenge the sanctions slapped on the club for hooliganism witnessed during their home game against Darajani Gogo early last month.
The incident that happened on October 8 at Migori Stadium resulted in the club being sanctioned three days later by the Leagues and Competitions Committee. The sanctions were:
-Migori Stadium was prohibited from hosting the next five (5) Migori Youth FC home matches, which will be played behind closed doors.
-Migori Youth FC were directed to pay Darajani Gogo FC for the damaged iPhone 14 and media equipment and reimburse medical expenses incurred within fourteen days (14) of this decision.
-Migori Youth FC were directed to pay a fine of KES 200,000.
The Peter Okidi-led team then decided to move to the tribunal to challenge the sanctions, and in response, FKF moved to suspend the team’s league matches until the matter at the tribunal is resolved. They were set to play Naivas FC last weekend but did not feature this coming weekend; their game against MCF had been similarly suspended prior to the directive issued by SDT Chairman John Ohaga.
The Tribunal has now stayed the decision by the Leagues and Competitions Committee dated October 25, and Migori will now be able to feature in the league. They will, however, stage their games at their alternative home ground, Awendo Green Stadium.
