Manchester United will receive 50% of the profit when Marseille sells the player

Mason Greenwood could have been a star in Manchester United’s current team, but the off-field scandals he was involved in permanently forced him out of Old Trafford and the England national team.

However, the young footballer has managed to revive his career on the pitch, first shining at Getafe and then continuing his resurgence at Marseille. This season, Greenwood has played 24 matches for the club at the Velodrome, scoring 15 goals and providing four assists. That has been enough to attract the interest of Paris Saint-Germain, according to French media.

Rumors suggest that PSG is willing to pay 62 million euros for Greenwood. Whether that figure is accurate or not is less important than the fact that it has reignited the connection between the English forward and Manchester United. Reports indicate that the Red Devils still have a clause in their agreement with Marseille that guarantees them a solid financial benefit.

According to this clause, Manchester United is entitled to 50% of any profit Marseille makes when selling Englishman. Since the French club paid 26 millions for him, any amount exceeding that will be split evenly between Marseille and United.

Simple math shows that if PSG pays 62 million euros, the 36 millions difference would be divided equally, sending 18 million to both the Velodrome and Old Trafford. Not bad for a player the English football scene abandoned and cast out.

Of course, this is all still speculation, especially since Marseille would prefer not to strengthen their fierce rival. Meanwhile, PSG’s primary focus remains Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli.
