Despite their involvement in the whole European Super League fiasco, three giants will play in next season's best continental club competition
Champions League without Messi, Ronaldo, Benzema, Modric - sounds strange, right?
Well, that could have been the case if UEFA's independent appeals body hasn't suspended disciplinary proceedings against Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid over their involvement in the proposed Super League breakaway project.
Luckily, three clubs have been admitted to next season's Champions League.
After being notified by the Swiss authorities of a court order from the commercial court in Madrid obtained by the legal entity European Super League Company SL, UEFA suspended proceedings against the three powerhouses of European and world football.
'Admission letters have been sent to all clubs participating in next season's UEFA club competitions today,' UEFA said on Tuesday.
Even though it is good news for the teams at the moment, the suspension in proceedings against the clubs is temporary, UEFA insists.
'In reliance on the Court Order, the mentioned three clubs have sought to shield themselves from potential disciplinary consequences related to this so-called 'Super League' project,' said UEFA's statement.
'UEFA understands why the disciplinary proceedings needed to be suspended for the time being, but remains confident in and will continue to defend its position in all the relevant jurisdictions.'
Of the 12 clubs who signed up to the Super League in April - Juve, Barca and Real are the last ones standing as they have not distanced themselves from the envisioned competition. The situation unravelled when all six English clubs plus Inter Milan, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid withdrew.
Alongside with Real Madrid boss Florentino Perez, Super League co-founder and Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli stated that the idea of creating a breakaway league was not a coup but a way to save the football industry. According to the mentioned duo, the coronavirus pandemic hit football in such a way that it needs salvation.
Both Juve and Real will start their upcoming campaigns with a old-new face in the dugouts. Carlo Ancelotti is back at Santiago Bernabeu after Zinedine Zidane left and Massimiliano Allegri is back for a second spell in place of Andrea Pirlo at Allianz Stadium in Turin.
