The German defender could leave the Spanish giants, while the Argentine is growing increasingly frustrated in north London
Tottenham could be preparing a bold move for Antonio Rudiger, with reports suggesting the north London club are monitoring the Real Madrid defender as his contract approaches its final year. The 32-year-old Germany international is set to enter free agency in the summer of 2026, and Spurs may see him as a potential high-profile addition to their back line.

A possible twist in the story could involve Cristian Romero heading the other way. The World Cup-winning Argentine has been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid also keeping tabs on his situation. Romero has shown visible frustration at times this season and was sent off in Tottenham’s recent loss to Manchester United, adding fuel to speculation about his future.
Romero joined Spurs on loan from Atalanta in 2021 before the move was made permanent, and he has since racked up more than 150 appearances for the club. However, uncertainty is growing around his long-term role, and Tottenham are believed to be drawing up contingency plans. One of the names on their radar is Rudiger, who is no stranger to Premier League football after spending five seasons with Chelsea between 2017 and 2022.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Rudiger lifted the Champions League, FA Cup and Europa League, cementing his reputation as one of Europe’s elite central defenders. He later joined Real Madrid on a free transfer in search of a new challenge, but his future in Spain is now far from secure.
Real are also facing contract decisions on David Alaba and Dani Carvajal, and Rudiger’s recent injury record has raised concerns within the club. If his fitness issues persist, a new deal may not be forthcoming, and even if talks progress, the offer is expected to be limited to a short-term extension as Madrid focus on long-term squad planning.
With interest emerging from both La Liga and the Premier League, Rudiger could consider securing a longer contract elsewhere. He will be eager for regular playing time to boost his chances of making Germany’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, having already earned 81 international caps.
In addition to European suitors, wealthy clubs in the Saudi Pro League are reportedly ready to make lucrative proposals should the veteran defender decide to explore a new chapter in the Middle East.
