Accused players could be handed a four-match bans if they are found guilty
This has definitely been a Marseille week in France. The famous club has been on the top pages of the French sports press directly or indirectly. First, it was about President Pablo Longoria’s decision to stay at the helm amid pressure from the fan groups to resign, then it was his coaching search, and then it was reported that both Zinedine Zidane and Christophe Galtier turned him down (for various reasons), then Gennaro Gattuso was appointed coach, then it was reported that Zidane will become the manager when Saudi Arabia buys Marseille and now new news. This time, the main target is not Olympique but it still has something to do with this club. Three PSG players could end up being suspended due to homophobic chants after the game with Marseille.

The LFP, French football's ruling body, summoned PSG’s first team Ousmane Dembele, Randal Kolo Muani, Achraf Hakimi and Layvin Kurzawa, due to this incident, and they will be summoned for a hearing scheduled for October 5th. If they are found guilty, according to DW, they are facing a ban of up to four games, which means that they could miss some important matches, like Rennes away or a home game against AC Milan in the Champions League. The incident happened after the game, when PSG players went over to celebrate a 4-0 victory in front of their fans. According to The Athletic, the players went under the Virage Auteuil stand, where the club’s ultras are based, and that’s where the alleged homophobic chant broke out.
The club is also under investigation since the incident happened at their stadium, and they are also facing fines, even though they condemned the perpetrators.
“Paris Saint-Germain condemns all forms of discrimination, particularly homophobia, and would like to reiterate that it has no place in stadiums nor in society. Paris Saint-Germain has been working for many years with leading associations in the fight against all forms of discrimination. The club intends to further strengthen its prevention work in the fight against homophobia and will be meeting all its partners in the next few days on this essential subject” read the statement.
