Giants from the French capital are determined to bring one of the best players in history of football to their ranks
Reporter who presented news to the world that Neymar is leaving Barca for PSG back in 2017, Marcelo Bechler, spoke for TNT Sports Brazil and made another potential shockwave - PSG have made an official offer to Leo Messi. According to Bechler, Argentine is offered a two year deal with an option to be extended for a third one.
French club is emphasizing the economic situation Barcelona are in and that the offer coming from Parc de Princes is something Messi should accept - apart from financial reasons, PSG are fixating on the fact that they are last years Champions League finalists and this years semifinalists.
Also, Parisians stress out that the last two matches Barca were beaten by PSG (5-2 on aggregate in Champions league) is important to consider.
Messi's contract expired at the end of June and his negotiations with Barca over a renewal haven't started yet.
A couple of months ago, Messi was pretty much a word away from saying his time with Barcelona has ended but with the club's presidency changed and with the results going for the better lately, it should not be a surprise if the incredible footballer stays at Camp Nou.
Joan Laporta has a great relationship with Messi and is optimistic that the Argentine will remain a Barcelona player.
The fact that Messi's father and agent Jorge is currently in Barcelona indicates talks might begin soon but at the moment no one seems to be in a hurry as far as renewal goes.
The delicate financial situation at Barcelona due to the bad business decisions in the last couple of years and of course the pandemic is one of the negatives in Barca's plans to keep Messi and persuade him with a long-term or even life contract.
When the whole 'Messi leaving Barca' situation emerged, Manchester City were the main contenders in bringing him in - Sergio Aguero hasn't still announced he is leaving City and money is not an issue at Etihad so there were things that could have led the whole situation in that direction.
Now, PSG are in the pole position. PSG sports director Leonardo announced publicly that "our chair for Messi is reserved just in case."
Several PSG footballers, Messi's compatriots or ex-teammates (Di Maria, Neymar, Paredes) both publicly and privately spoke about how big of a move that would be for both parties.
After Madrid rivals, Atletico and Real, squandered their chances to solidify at the top of the La Liga table, Barca now have everything in their hands to salvage a turbulent season. There are six games left and one of those is a derby against Atletico.
Potential La Liga title will bring much into the equation when Messi starts doing the math on whether to stay or go.
