Posta Rangers forward Patrick Otieno is a relieved man after ending the prolonged goal drought last weekend when the mailmen beat debutants Murang’a Seal 1-0 at the St. Sebastian Park.
Otieno scored the all-important goal deep in second half to help Rangers stretch their unbeaten start as well as scale to the summit of the FKFPL log with ten points.
The soft-spoken player had last found the back of the net in February prior to last weekend’s match away to Seal.
Yet, coach John Kamau kept faith in him and handed playing time to the versatile Otieno who can also predominantly plays as winger.
Interestingly, his lone strike against Homeboyz back in February was enough for Rangers to pick maximum points.
Clearly, it has not been the best year for Otieno who previously showed potential and scored on a regular basis few seasons ago.
However, he says, the goal against Seal is a good starting point to his journey towards redemption and rediscovery of his form.
“I have never felt this relieved. I had been playing and getting scoring chances but somehow, not been lucky enough to score. I struggled for the better part of last season but I am glad that I am making steps towards the right direction. I want to build on the confidence and better my goal returns,” said Otieno.
The former Nzoia Sugar attacker who debuted in the topflight while he was still a student at Bukembe Boys High School joined Rangers as a winger.
However, Kamau has transformed the former Kariobangi Sharks player to a out and out striker in a bid to solve the goal scoring problem the team had particularly last season.
“I am liking the new job description. As a team, we are creating chances and thus, I find myself in scoring positions. I am comfortable playing as a winger or at the heart of the forward line,” added the former national U20 team player.
