Following a previous 1-0 win in the first leg, Arda won 2-1 in the return leg and secured qualification to the UEFA Conference League.
Marcelo's teammates showed solidarity when they wore shirts with a message printed ‘Erick. We are with you' prior to their 2-0 defeat to Pogon Szczecin on Sunday, 31 August.
Apart from his club, Marcelo’s injury was also a blow to Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy, who had the Kenya international in his plans for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers as one of his key players.
Consequently, the former Green Commandos left back missed Kenya's 3-1 loss to The Gambia and will also miss the next match against Seychelles on Tuesday, 9 September.
With the nature of the injury, the Kenyan defender is set to spend about seven months on the sidelines.
