A first-half penalty by Jose Miranda was all Nzalang Nacional needed to strike Benni McCarthy's much-changed side, which for its enterprise, lacked a spark upfront, with skipper Michael Olunga's absence being felt.
Here, we look at how individual players fared in the evening game played behind closed doors.

Bryne OdhiamboGoalkeeper
Not his busiest outing. Was involved in much of Kenya's build-up from the back, and there is nothing he could have done with the penalty. Still came up with two big stops in the second half.

Rooney OnyangoDefense
Was rather harshly judged to have committed a foul inside the box which ultimately decided the game. Apart from that, his runs gave Kenya width down the right.

Sylvester OwinoDefense
Calm in build-up as you can expect, and was there to repel a few long balls that came his area.

Michael KibwageDefense
Led with his commanding presence and gave Kenya a lifeline when he cleared off the line in the second half.

Kevin OtiendeDefense
Decent way to debut for the national team. He did not look fazed at left-back, the only blot on his paper being the glaring miss in the first-half when he was all clear.

Marvin NabwireMidfield
Played his role in anchoring the midfield and securing the defense, but will not rank as his best outings.

Duke AbuyaMidfield
Wore the captain's armband - a nod to his influence in the squad. Going forward, he on occasions bombed forward, but did not match his lofty heights of unlocking a steady defense.

William LenkupaeMidfield
The endeavor is always there - he was involved in a few scraps in there - but lacked substance. He spurned a one-on-one chance in the seventh minute, and who knows what an opposite outcome would have done to the game.

Bonface MuchiriAttack
Kenya went to his direction in need of a spark, and he made several inroads into the opposition box. He had a chance late in the second half blocked, but when asked to be more aggressive, went quiet in the second half.

Ryan OgamAttack
Unfortunately, his lack of game-time at Wolfsberger AC showed. There were a couple of loose touches in the first half, and he failed to control a cut-back laid in his direction. A far cry from his usual self.

Jonah AyungaAttack
Partnered up Ogam in a two in front, and for his brilliance in hold-up play, will rue his missed opportunities, especially in the first half. When he finally scored, he had sadly strayed offside.

Ovella OchiengAttack
Came on with little less than 20 minutes to go, and immediately showed his bursting pace on the left. He later moved to the middle, but his impact was not felt.

Austin OdhiamboAttack
Came in from the bench to make a difference but missed two big chances to score.
