PLAYER RATINGS: Lenkupae, Bajaber fight on, but Kenya fails to beat Gabon

Reading Time: 1min | Sun. 23.03.25. | 19:38

Kenya, with their second loss, are at the brink of missing a place at the 2026 World Cup

Kenya men's national football team Harambee Stars' failed to win on their return home, going down to two goals either half from Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

And while they managed to get a goal back, the hosts tasted defeat for a second time in the qualifiers, with their World Cup hopes hanging by a thread.

Here, we look at how the Stars player fared.

Ian OtienoGoalkeeper
Only conceded the clearest of chances, and will be credited for keeping out Aubameyang's shot early on. He also hacked away a freekick from Guelor Kanga, which looked to be going in.

Erick OtienoMidfield
Enterprising going forward as expected, and created his side's only goal. His marking on Aubameyang's first goal was suspect however, and he was also the culprit when he handled a cross inside the box for a penalty.

Quite decent in his return. Did not overcomplicate stuff, and will perhaps be happy that the only time he played a risky pass behind, Denis Bouanga struck the bar.

Daniel AnyembeDefense
Much more comfortable than he looked against The Gambia. He wasn't spun around in an unfamiliar position, and was quick to his challenges.

Was reduced to a sitting duck all day. Feels like he should be stuck in a more adventurous position, and that showed today.

Anthony AkumuMidfield
A force in midfield. His job is to disrupt attacks, and that he did. His only blot was hitting a gimme way over the bar. A striker would have buried it away.

Richard OdadaMidfield
Gave away two chances to Gabon in the first half and was lucky to come away without punishment. Was dispossessed early in the second-half only for Bouanga to smack a post. Improved later on, but much is needed.

William LenkupaeMidfield
Flew into everything that came his way. Was actively involved in alot of movements, but only failed to apply a finishing touch. He gave Kenyans hope with his hunger, and you will bet his full debut was worth it, and not his last.

Mohammed BajaberAttack
Not a bad way to mark his debut. His dribbles were a delight, and always offered a channel to the midfielders on the left flank.

Timothy OumaMidfield
Felt a bit flat. Was deployed to be the glue between the attack and midfield, but you felt something missing as the ball was sprayed to the flanks than through the middle.

Michael OlungaAttack
Another day, another goal. That is to his credit, but many will feel he again missed some sitters. He dallied on a loose ball from the Gabon defense, and headed wide late in the half.

Jonah AyungaAttack
Oh if he could shuffle his feet quicker. Always a handful infront of goal, but just tried to do so much with his endless dribbling. That cost him a go at goal.

Duke AbuyaMidfield
Almost instantly spark a plug when he came on. Shot straight at the keeper after coming on, and had a goal-bound shot blocked. Quite an introduction from the bench.

Wasn't on for long to give a fair rating.
