Shabana are yet to win a game this season despite making heavy investment in the off-season transfer window
Head coach Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo was missing from the touchline as Shabana FC surrendered their lead to settle for a 1-1 draw against Kariobangi Sharks at Dandora Stadium.
On Friday, it emerged that Pamzo had been asked to step aside following the poor start to the season despite the heavy investment made in the squad in the off-season transfer window.
His future at Shabana was a topic of discussion in the stands, as he was not spotted doing the mandatory media duties for a live match, warm up and on the touchline in the 90 minutes.
Former Gor Mahia and Kakamega Homeboyz goalkeeper David Juma, who serves as a trainer at the club, manned the touchline for the better part of the game.
Similarly, Sharks had to do without their head coach William Muluya, who is in South Sudan with Harambee Stars for a 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier assignment.
A circular, released in the course of the week, that sought to advice Shabana fans from attending the match did not deter hundreds of them as they made their way to the facility and backed the team to the full-time whistle.
The absence of the two tacticians was barely felt as both teams had a fairly good game with Shabana failing to make the most of the chances created count.
The visitors had a strong start, signifying intent for their first win of the season but Sharks were equal to the task as they had an answer for every question posed by Shabana.
After a goalless half, Shabana took the lead in the 56th minute through Brian Michira who cut in from the left before unleashing a fierce shot, beating Sebastian Wekesa to the farthest corner.
Michira, who was quite handful on the wing, collected the ball before dribbling past his marker and letting fly a shot that was guided past the line by the upright.
Sharks replied in the 64th minute through Keith Imbali who struck from the spot after an infringement in the box.
The penalty triggered protests from Shabana players but their pleas to have the call rescinded landed on deaf ears.
Juma, in his post-match comments also criticised the referee for awarding a rather soft penalty.
"We played well but I am not sure if the penalty was legit. If we build on up on today's performance, we will secure good results in the subsequent matches," said the former goalkeeper.
Sharks assistant coach Ezekiel Seda, on his part said the team would have won had they passed the ball better.
"We were making quick passes today, " observed the former midfielder.
