Liverpool is the only candidate for the 45 million pounds rated defender
So far, Liverpool had a perfect transfer window. The current Premier League champion bought Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Miloš Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong, while they are waiting for Alexander Isak to fight his way out of Newcastle. But let’s not forget they they are thin in the defensive department. Coach Arne Slot tried to downplay that fact by saying that Ryan Gravenberch, Andy Robertson and Wataru Endo can all play as central defenders while Joe Gomez is out with an injury (again), but in reality, the Reds need to buy. Enter Crystal Palace.
🚨 Liverpool are the favourites to sign Marc Guehi if he leaves Crystal Palace this summer.

The Eagles, who defeated Liverpool yesterday in the Community Shield after a penalty shootout are known for making shrew moves in the transfer market. Just remember the names of Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton, players who have or will be sold for more money they were brought in. But everybody make mistakes and Palace made a big one. Last season, they rejected four offers from Newcastle regarding their best defender Marc Guehi. The last offer from the Magpies stood at 65 million pounds for a player bought for 20 from Chelsea. The player was open to a move but didn’t want to force the club. The Eagles were greedy and wanted more. Newcastle backed out and the player stayed. But Guehi now informed the club he will not sign a new contract, and the current one ends in June 2026.
Enter Liverpool, who will probably get a fantastic defender at a low cost price. Chairman Steve Parish finally admitted that they will have to sell the player in order to avoid losing him for free next year.
“Players of that calibre to leave on a free, it is a problem for a football club. There is no doubt about it unfortunately. Joachim Andersen went and we couldn’t afford to lose both of them. We then had another bid in January but that was a difficult situation as well. We will just have to see what happens. It needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind. In the end, people trade players, That is what football clubs do” he said after the game.
And how come Liverpool are getting the England international for a bargain fee? Let’s go back to the bad Crystal Palace decision to reject Newcastle. This season, the Magpies didn’t even think of getting into the bidding war with Liverpool as they already lost on Hugo Ekitike, thus allowing Liverpool to set up a price of around 45 million, and Palace will lose 20 million, if we count Newcastle’s last year offer. The Magpies decided to buy Milan’s Malick Thiaw for roughly the same amount and the player is in Newcastle, setting up his medical. What a fantastic off season for Liverpool.
