Newly appointed Soy United coach Samuel Otieno Twago has praised his charges' performance despite their barren draw with Muyayi Youngsters in their Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Division II Western Zone A league match played at Ivugwi Primary School in Likuyani, Soy Town, on Saturday 18.

The team was enjoying the services of the tactician, who was making a comeback after three years in the cold.

Otieno was re-appointed to the club on Friday. He is not new to this position, having guided the team from 2018 to 2021, where he saw them promoted to the Division One League and eventually to the National Super League during the COVID-19 2020 season.

Following his great exploits, he sealed a better deal as the assistant coach of Vihiga United FC (Mulembe United) before their relegation from the Premier League.

Reflecting on his first match with the team, Otieno pointed out that he was back to finish what he left off. The side was relegated back to Division II, and the coach is bracing for an uphill task.

Prior to the barren draw, the side had seen off Hoha FC in Busia 2-0.

"I have been here before, and I am back. Soy is my team, and I believe that I have a dream here to achieve. I have a vision for this team. I am happy that the patron has called me to come help the boys," Otieno offered.

The tactician was further pleased with their willpower, noting that they would polish on their finishing, which cost them several chances.

"This was my first match with them, and I am happy that I haven't lost. I am happy with how the boys have behaved as we trained for this match. In a football match, when you get chances, it means that you are playing well. You just need to execute. We will go back to the drawing board and work on our finishing because all the departments are well, but we did not score," he posited.

With the draw now behind them, Otieno assured them that they would put their best foot forward when they traveled to Mount Elgon to square off with the Kipsis Arrows, who occupy the 16th position on the log. Following that, they will return for their Likuyani derby against Kona Rangers FC.

"We have to work smarter and put our heads high. They say after a match is before a match," the optimistic gaffer assured.

Soy are now placed fourth in the league with 11 points, having won three matches, lost two matches, and had a single barren draw with Muyayi Youngsters.
