Quincy Promes, 31, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for stabbing his cousin in the knee. Previously, he was accused of drug trafficking

Former Netherlands winger Quincy Promes has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for stabbing his cousin in the knee.

The incident took place at a family party back in July 2020, and the 31-year-old forward - currently plying trade at Russian giants Spartak Moscow - was found guilty of assault by a Dutch court.

Promes' lawyer says he will appeal, according to Dutch broadcaster RTL.

The former Sevilla and Ajax player, capped 50 times for the national side, lives in Russia and did not attend the court hearing.

Promes was also charged by Dutch prosecutors last month for his alleged involvement in drug trafficking. He is suspected of having been involved in smuggling 1,360 kilos of cocaine to the Netherlands or Belgium in two shipments in 2020.
