Quincy Promes officially accused of smuggling 1,300 kilograms of cocaine

Smells like the end of the career for Quincy Promes. It's just that the 31-year-old Dutchman won't be hanging his football boots on a peg, but will have to wear ankle braces.

Three years ago, an investigation was launched against Promes for his involvement in cocaine smuggling, and the Dutch media report that an indictment was officially filed against him today. The Spartak Moscow footballer is accused of organizing and participating in the smuggling of 1,300 kilograms of cocaine, which arrived in the port of Antwerp in January 2020.

The drugs came in two packages, one containing 650 "blocks" per kilogram, and the other 712 kilograms. Promes, who is of Surinamese descent, is accused of organizing all of this and preparing the cocaine for further resale. He was arrested on April 25 of that year, his phone was searched, where additional compromising material was found. An investigation was then launched and expanded to include money laundering.

All this is not the only trouble for Quincy Promes, who was also accused of attacking and seriously injuring a relative with a knife in July 2020 after a party.

However, while these processes are ongoing, the footballer went to Spartak Moscow and played the whole season peacefully there. But on June 5, he will have to appear before the court in Amsterdam, where the first hearing will be held regarding the investigation into cocaine smuggling, codenamed Porto.

Considering the whole situation with Russia and Ukraine, the Dutch media suspect that Promes will try not to appear at the trial, that he will not return from Moscow to the Netherlands, but the trial will certainly take place even without his presence.
