The new signing capped off a man of the match display with a maiden goal for his new side against Mathare United on Tuesday.

New Nairobi City Stars left-back Bolton Omwenga was left delighted after scoring his first league goal for his new side to set the tone for a comfortable win against Mathare United in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League match that took place yesterday at Kasarani Annex Stadium. Rodgers ‘Okuse’ Okumu added the second goal late in the second half to seal all three points for Simba wa Nairobi in the 2-0 victory.

The defender, who signed for City Stars on February 4th, joined the Jonathan Jackson funded outfit from Tanzania’s Premiership side Biashara United Mara in the closed mid-season window. The player hit the ground running as he provided one assist in their 4-1 win against Mutomo Tigers in the Betway Cup competition. Against Mathare, Omwenga continued with his sublime form, scoring his first goal with a thunderbolt that beat Job Ochieng’ in the Mathare goal.

The former Nzoia United, Kariobangi Sharks and KCB left-back stated how happy he was to score his maiden goal and how it has been so easy to settle at his new club after the game against Mathare.

“It’s a good thing. It’s a positive feeling (scoring a first goal). I feel really good since I came here, at least there’s a project coming up. I’m happy. It feels as if I’m home already here at City Stars despite small challenges here and there but I feel as if I’ve already settled down well with them,” he said.

The defender, who has also been capped twice for the national side Harambee Stars and four times for the Kenya U23 team was however coy to state his personal targets and his aims with the club, choosing to generalize the targets he has for the running campaign.

“My ambition is to keep going and just pray we keep getting positive results,” he stated.

Having endured a tough eight winless streak, the 2-0 win is crucial for City Stars who are now ninth on the log. They next face an AFC Leopards side sitting in fourth position this Sunday in league action.
