Old Lady can still tame Wolves: Juve beat Roma in electric Serie A derby

Bianconeri reduce the gap to Giallorossi to just one point with a 2-1 win

This must have been a very special night for Luciano Spalletti, Paulo Dybala and Matias Soule as they faced their former club, Juventus, but this encounter with their ex didn't finish nicely for AS Roma.

Moreover, the injury-crippled Bianconeri celebrated a 2-1 home win, which puts them just a point below the Wolves in the Serie A table.

Gian Piero Gasperini's side was simply too shy in the opening half, as Juve kept pushing and looking for pockets of space in the visitors' defence so they could strike. And it took them quite some time before they finally found what they've been looking for - in the last few minutes of the first half.

Yildiz rolled across for Conceicao, who dribbled past Rensch before Svilar denied his effort. The ball reached Openda on the rebound from the edge of the area, but it was deflected over.

Just a minute later, however, the arrow hit the very centre of the target!

It was Conceicao again under the spotlight; only this time, Svilar stood no chance. Yildiz, Cambiaso and then Conceicao made a fool of the rival's defence for a deserved opener, 1-0.

Even after the break, the home side kept searching for another goal, as Cambiaso's missile was stopped by Svilar. Not even the immaculate keeper could prevent his team from conceding a few minutes later as Zhegrova's cross from the right found McKennie in the box. His elegant header wasn't good enough for Svilar, but he was unable to stop Openda from a rebound, and it was 2-0.

Gasperini's lot pegged one back before the end through Baldanzi, but Roma were too weak for a total comeback.
