Shabana were promoted alongside Murang'a Seal

Experienced Shana midfielder Peter Ogechi believes that the club will kick off the 2023-2024 Football Kenya Federation Premier League with three points when they host debutants Murang’a Seal.

Shabana who returned to the top flight after 17 years of absence are scheduled to take on Seal on Sunday at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homabay.

Seal were promoted alongside Shabana after finishing behind the Glamour Boys who clinched the National Super League.

Ogechi, said the team had solid preparations since resuming for the pre-season and further, had signed quality players who bear top flight experience.

We are targeting good performances throughout the season but before then, we must ensure that we start well. We have prepared well and tested ourselves against top teams,” he said.

Despite being a defensive midfielder, Ogechi aided Shaban secure automatic promotion by netting fourteen goals last season.

Ahead of his second stint in the top flight, the towering midfielder says he is solely focused on helping the club achieve its objectives rather than hunting for individual glory.

Ogechi is not new to the top league as he previously played for Posta Rangers before returning to Shabana.

I know goals will come but that is not the main focus. The biggest task remains helping the team do well. Obviously, I have my own goals but that of the team comes first,” he stated.

With Shabana set to play home matches in Homabay rather than their backyard in Kisii, the midfielder called on the club’s supporters to pick from where they left last season as their support, will come in handy.

Shabana’s home matches drew massive following last season but the numbers could dwindle owing to the closure of the Gusii Stadium and the subsequent hosting of home encounters in Homabay.

The facility was closed to create room for renovations especially on the playing surface.

We ask our fans to come and support us. They did a great job last season and their presence on the pitch will push us to get good results,” added the former Gusii FC midfielder.
