Gor Mahia fans had a seesaw relationship with the club last season, which resulted in poor support for the better part of the season.

Gor Mahia will begin their Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) title defense against Sofapaka SC at the Kasarani Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Ahead of the opener, K'Ogalo's head coach, Johnathan McKinstry, has rallied fans to "be part of the journey" as they begin a quest for a possible 21st title.

"It all starts again on Saturday," the Irishman tweeted ahead of the 3 p.m. kick-off game.

"We look forward to welcoming you at Kasarani Stadium as Gor Mahia set off in pursuit of another Premier League title."

Known as the Green Army, Gor Mahia fans had a seesaw relationship with the club last season, which resulted in poor support for the better part of the season.

Yet, the fans numbers soured up towards the end of the season as the quest for the title gained momentum.

McKinstry is now calling on the fans to be part of the team from the onset. "Be part of the journey from Day 1 and play your part in our continued success."

Gor Mahia will play host to Sofapaka in one of the highlights of Week 1.

In their past 20 encounters, K'Ogalo has managed eleven wins against Sofapaka's six victories, with three fixtures ending in draws.

"History does not count in the game of football; it's about the present and how you prepare for a match," McKinstry said in a past interview with Mozzart Sport.

Both outfits have boosted their squads, with Gor Mahia roping in Uganda forward Rodgers Mugisha and Rwandan winger Patrick Sibomana as their latest acquisitions.

Other notable names that have linked up with K'Ogalo include goalkeeper Kevin Omondi, returning midfielder Lawrence Juma, and Kevin Juma from Nzoia Sugar.

The team missed a chance to play in the African Champions League after failing the club Licencing test, but has vowed to make amends next season.

"The disappointment is behind us, and we're now focused on winning this season's title," McKinstry said.
