The former AFC Leopards scored and assisted on his debut for Zesco United

Kenyan International Vincent Oburu has said that he is not under any form of pressure to replicate Jesse Were's heroics at Zesco United amid comparison to his compatriot, a legend at the club.

Were left the club after five years with a strong legacy to his name, leaving as the club's top scorer and Oburu's performance in his first game in Zambia might have rekindled some Jesse Were moments to the club's faithfuls.

The former AFC Leopards forward opened the scoring and set up the second goal against Nkana in the 2-1 win while making his debut since completing the move to the Ndola-based outfit in the January transfer window.

“Jesse Were is a fantastic player and a legend at this football club and everyone knows that fact. He is equally a good friend of mine; we are coming from the same place in Kenya. I am here to play as Oburu, Jesse is Jesse. I will work hard to set my own record. ZESCO United is a very big club with a good following. However, I am not under any pressure because the teams have played for in the past also had a huge following,” Oburu is quoted by Zesco's media.

Oburu, who until recently turned out for Wazito FC, reveled at scoring in his debut for the side and has promised to continue giving 100% in matches to help the team collect maximum points in the remaining matches.

“I am happy because as a team we managed to get the three points and I am hoping for more in the coming games. I will continue to give my best and leave the rest to God. I am at a very big club where everyone needs to work extra hard.” He added.

Up next for Oburu and Zesco is a trip to face fourth-placed Green Buffaloes on Saturday.
