Unlike on regular weekends when fixtures are spread out, this round will be played in one burst after a congested midweek program that ran until Thursday.
The headline fixture of the day will be at Moi Stadium in Kisumu, where the Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) hosts Migori Youth in the eagerly awaited South Nyanza Derby.
The clash brings together two in-form sides from the southern part of Nyanza, Migori and Homa Bay, both pushing hard for promotion to the top flight.
The derby carries added weight as both teams are genuine contenders for promotion.
MOFA, under coach Charles Bruno, sits third on the log with 19 points after showing steady improvement.
Migori Youth, meanwhile, top the table and come into the match seven points clear of MOFA, riding high after back-to-back victories over Fortune Sacco and Darajani Gogo.
MOFA approach the derby with renewed belief, having shaken off their poor start to the campaign.
A win today would hand them three consecutive victories for the first time this season.
Bruno’s men are currently on a four-match unbeaten run since their 1-0 loss to Mully Children’s Family (MCF).
They have beaten Fortune Sacco (2-1), drawn with Naivas (0-0), thrashed Mombasa United 4-0, and staged a dramatic 3-2 comeback against Gucha Stars.
Migori Youth are equally flying; the border club is unbeaten in five matches since their 3-2 defeat to newcomers Equity Bank.
Their fine run includes wins over Gucha Stars, Nairobi City Stars, Fortune Sacco, and Darajani Gogo, as well as a draw with Vihiga United.
A win for Migori will open up an eight-point cushion at the summit; a victory for MOFA, on the other hand, would lift them to second place and cut Migori’s lead to just four points, blowing the promotion race wide open.
Equity Bank vs 3K FC
At Ruaraka Grounds in Nairobi, ninth-placed Equity Bank hosts second-placed 3K FC in what promises to be a thrilling, high-tempo encounter given both sides’ attacking flair.
The bankers, debuting in the league this season, have surprised many with their strong start, losing only twice and taking notable wins against seasoned NSL sides.
However, John Kamara’s men are now under pressure to halt a dip in form, having managed just one win in their last four outings.
They have lost to Mombasa United, drawn with Kisumu All Stars and Naivas, and edged MCF in that run.
3K FC, coached by Francis Chege, enter the tie in fine form. They have won four of their last five matches, beating Kisumu All Stars, Luanda Villa, Gucha Stars, and Kibera Black Stars while only falling to Soy United.
Their strong run has placed them firmly in the promotion conversation, and a win today could trim Migori’s lead at the top to just two points, depending on other results.
