NSL PREVIEW: Seven matches on the cards as promotion and relegation battles heat up

Reading Time: 4min | Sat. 14.03.26. | 10:23

One of the standout clashes will unfold at Sudi Stadium, where Nzoia Sugar FC host promotion-chasing Equity FC

Action in the National Super League (NSL) resumes on Saturday, 14 March with seven fixtures lined up across the country as the race for promotion and the fight for survival intensify heading into round 24.

Nzoia Sugar vs Equity FC

One of the standout clashes will unfold at Sudi Stadium, where Nzoia Sugar FC host promotion-chasing Equity FC.

Equity, who are enjoying an impressive maiden campaign in the second-tier, currently sit fifth on the standings with 37 points, four adrift of the automatic promotion slots.

The Bankers will therefore be targeting maximum points to keep their promotion dream firmly on course.

However, the visitors head into the contest still smarting from last weekend’s 3–1 defeat to league leaders Mombasa United, a result that snapped their six-match unbeaten run.

With rivals breathing down their necks, another slip could see them lose ground in the tightly contested promotion race.

Their hosts will also be keen to make a statement.

Nzoia Sugar, coached by Charles Odera, are currently 11th with 33 points and have quietly built momentum with a three-match unbeaten run.

The former FKF Premier League side is eager to return to the top flight after relegation two seasons ago.

Victory for the Bungoma-based outfit would lift them to 36 points and potentially thrust them back into the promotion conversation.

With the two teams having shared the spoils in their first-round meeting, Saturday’s clash promises to be a fiercely contested affair.

Elsewhere, promotion hopefuls Fortune Sacco FC will entertain Luanda Villa FC at Wang'uru Stadium.

The Kirinyaga-based side heads into the encounter in buoyant mood following a stunning 9–0 demolition of Kabati Youth FC last weekend, the biggest win of the season.

Currently sixth on 36 points, five behind the automatic promotion positions, coach Vincent Nyaberi will be urging his charges to build on that momentum as they continue their pursuit of a historic maiden promotion.

Standing in their path is a rejuvenated Luanda Villa side battling to escape the drop zone.

The team recently welcomed back experienced tactician Leonard Swaleh, whose return immediately paid dividends with a crucial victory over Mully Children Family FC last weekend, ending a seven-match winless streak and delivering their first win of 2026.

Another victory would lift Luanda Villa to 28 points and widen the gap between them and the relegation zone, setting the stage for a contest defined by contrasting ambitions.

At Dandora Stadium, FC Talanta will host struggling Darajani Gogo FC.

Talanta, who were recently relegated from the top tier, are keen to bounce back immediately to the FKF Premier League.

The side remains unbeaten in six matches and will be aiming to extend that run as they strengthen their promotion push.

Under coach Jackson Gatheru, Talanta could move to 39 points with a win and close the gap on promotion contenders MOFA FC to just two points.

Darajani Gogo, however, find themselves in deep trouble.

The Kibera-based club has gone nine matches without a win, with their last victory coming on December 21, 2025.

The poor run has left coach Kelly Ogutu still searching for his first win at the helm while the team hovers just above the relegation zone, a single point ahead of Kisumu All Stars.

While Talanta aim to complete a league double over their opponents, Gogo will be desperate to end their winless streak and bag first win of the year in what promises to be a tense encounter.

At GEMS Cambridge International School Grounds, Kibera Black Stars will take on relegation-threatened Vihiga United FC.

The hosts enter the clash buoyed by a 1–0 victory over Darajani Gogo in the Kibra Derby, a result that marked their second consecutive win.

Coach Iddi Badi will be aiming to guide his side to a third straight victory as they continue their push for a maiden promotion to the FKF Premier League.

Currently eighth with 36 points, victory would see them rise to 39 points and reignite their promotion ambitions.

Vihiga United, meanwhile, sit second from bottom and are enduring a difficult run with four matches without victory.

Coach Milton Kidiga will be hoping his side can halt the slump and begin their climb away from the relegation zone.

Down in Wundanyi, a high-stakes relegation battle awaits as Mwatate United host Kisumu All Stars.

Both teams are deeply entrenched in the relegation fight and head into the encounter following identical 1–0 defeats in their previous matches.

Kisumu All Stars, currently on 21 points under coach Duncan Otieno, know that victory could lift them to 24 points and potentially move them out of the drop zone.

Mwatate United, however, have proven stubborn opponents on home soil and will look to capitalize on their home advantage to boost their own survival hopes.

Elsewhere, two-time promotion hopefuls Naivas FC will host Nairobi City Stars at Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology Grounds, while MCF will entertain Gucha Stars FC at Ndalani Complex in another crucial fixture.
