The current Bundesliga campaign reaches its conclusion as German clubs enter the final match day of the season
"All Quiet on the Western Front" or "Nothing new in the West" is a best-selling novel by Erich Maria Remarque, a German veteran of World War I. The title of the book perfectly describes the situation at the top of the German domestic football league - this year and many prior, as Bayern Munich have clinched their 31st Bundesliga and extended their own record.
The Bavarians are joined by RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg in the top-four bunch and will be seen in the Champions League next season.
Even though he was injured and had Erling Haaland as projected competition for the German Golden Boot - incredible Robert Lewandowski is the Bundesliga top scorer this season with 40 goals. The final fixture against Augsburg is his one last chance to go ahead of Gerd Muller and set the single-season record in goals scored.
Meanwhile, as far as the Europa League race goes - all is sorted there. Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen have secured their participation in the next season’s rendering of the second-best European club competition.
For the first edition of the Europa Conference League which starts with the next season, it is now up to Union Berlin, Borussia Monchengladbach, Stuttgart and Freiburg to determine the sole German representative in the tournament, with just two points separating the four sides ahead of the final matchday.
With the already relegated Schalke side, their trip to the Bundesliga 2 will take either Koln, Werder Bremen or Arminia Bielefeld.

Teams that are embroiled in the tense relegation battle will try and reach/hold to that that 15th spot or at least look for a second chance in the play-off match (16th place) for surviving in the German top tier.
Match between Gladbach and Werder (Bremen side have never been relegated since securing promotion to the Bundesliga in 1981/82) should be the the one with most tension. Before departing Borussia-Park to to start his tenure with Dortmund in the summer, Marco Rose will try to guide his Gladbach side to another European finish.
Neutral fans of the sport are hoping next year could be the year of change and for the top German clubs to succeed in dethroning the Munich giants. However, with Julian Nagelsmann, the most promising German manager, moving from Leipzig to Bayern next season - it all just seems we will be going through another German deja-vu.
