It looks like Manchester's defender will extend his contract with the club

There’s no player who’s been more criticized and mocked than Harry Maguire. He’s been the subject of countless jokes in England—often deservedly, though sometimes exaggerated—and even beyond. The English center-back was frequently ridiculed, with nearly everything he did being scrutinized. Most football fans expected him to leave Manchester United, yet now it seems he might actually stay at Old Trafford until the end of his career?! Yes, that possibility is very much on the table. Maguire is now 32, with one year left on his current contract, and according to Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail, Manchester United are seriously considering offering him a new deal. Supporting that idea is the fact that United have already rejected five offers for the England international during this transfer window.

There was plenty of interest. Three unnamed English clubs and two Italian sides reached out to Old Trafford, sounding out both Maguire and United—only to receive a firm and clear “no.” In short: Manchester United will not let Harry Maguire leave. There are even indications that the club will soon sit down at the negotiating table to discuss a contract extension. Under his current deal, Maguire earns 190,000 pounds per week, and with it set to expire in a year, his wish is to become a club stalwart like Denis Irwin, Steve Bruce, or Bryan Robson.

So, Maguire’s plan is to put down roots at Manchester United. Positive developments have occurred since Ruben Amorim took over as manager—he rehabilitated Maguire, even pushed him forward into attacking roles on occasion, resulting in his goal against Lyon that secured a 5–4 win and a place in the Europa League final. The Portuguese coach has managed to connect with the veteran defender, and their strong relationship is evident: United activated the “plus one” clause in his contract in January, and in Bruno Fernandes’ absence, Maguire has even worn the captain’s armband. All signs point toward a continued partnership and the signing of a new contract.
