The Kariobangi Sharks founder is currently an online sensation through his multi-million-shilling Swiggo poultry business.

Former FKF President Nick Mwendwa has revealed how he manages to balance his multi-billion-shilling Riverbank Solutions tech business, FKF Premier League side Kariobangi Sharks, his multi-million-shilling poultry farming venture and other business interests.

The 46-year-old has established himself as one of the country's astute businessmen, with ventures and interests across different sectors of the economy.

Mwendwa grabbed headlines in March 2025 after KCB bought a 75% stake in his fintech firm, Riverbank Solutions, for a reported fee of USD 15 million (approximately KSh2 billion).

The Kariobangi Sharks founder is currently an online sensation through his multi-million-shilling Swiggo poultry business.

In a sit-down interview with Mozzart Sport at his Riverbank Solutions office, the business mogul opened up about his multiple ventures.

“The science is the same. You need people who are committed to a course for a long period of time and who want to see it succeed. Identifying those people is the most difficult part,” said Mwendwa.

Mwendwa went on to explain how he uses the same principles to run Riverbank, Swiggo, Sharks, as well as his other businesses.

“For example, in chicken farming, I would advise that if you do not have someone committed to it 24/7, leave it because they will go home at 5 in the evening, and by the next day, all your chicks will die. I have to count the chicks myself so everyone understands.

The same applies to Sharks, where we have William Muluya as the longest-serving coach in the league despite being one of the youngest. Eleven years at Sharks.

At Riverbank, we have two staff members who have been with us from the beginning, while all the directors have been there for over a decade.

Once you get the right people, you have to lead by example,” he added.

Mwendwa, who has been spotted several times coaching Sharks during training sessions and barking out tactics during matches, explained the rationale behind his direct involvement with the team.

“At Sharks, if I say this is the philosophy, I have to show it for them to deliver. I cannot just sit and say I want the team to play like this. I have to go and coach and show you so then you can add your own and make it better.”
