The 16-year-old Muhammad Zongo became only the second Burkinabe player in the Blues' history
In the last couple of years - especially since Todd Boehly bought the club and changed its transfer policy - Chelsea have been mainly focused on pursuing youngsters from all around the world, binding them to long-term contracts, and then sending them on loan to some of their affiliate clubs.
That's how they brought names like Estevao, who had already established himself as one of Enzo Maresca's key players, Aaron Anselmino (on loan at Borussia Dortmund), Mamadou Sarr, and Kendry Paez (both on loan at Strasbourg).
However, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Blues won the fierce race with several other European giants for another incredible talent, this time from Africa, Muhammad Zongo.

The boy, who has recently turned 16, is set to join the London side from the Burkinabe side SF Cascades, and will make his first steps in Europe at the aforementioned Strasbourg, Chelsea's primary affiliate club.
Zongo, who can play an attacking midfielder and a winger, has recently shone at the U-17 FIFA World Cup, where Burkina Faso reached the quarter-finals before being eliminated by the third-place winners, Italy, against which the youngster was extremely unlucky, hitting the woodwork twice.

In six matches in the tournament, Zongo recorded two goals and three assists, and was named "Man of the Match" twice. He specifically stood up in the Round of 32 clash against the mighty Germany, netting the early winner in the Stallions' 1-0 triumph.
The teenager will thus become the second Burkinabe player at Chelsea, after the current national team captain, Bertrand Traore, who made 16 appearances and scored four goals with the Blues in the 2015/2016 season.
