The match, which was initially set for Sunday, 30 November, but Gor Mahia did not find a suitable venue to host it.

The club had hoped to stage the match at the Nyayo National Stadium as Kasarani Stadium was booked for a continental match.

However, it emerged that the government had also booked Nyayo Stadium for a state event, leaving the fixture in doubt.

Kasarani became unavailable after the reigning Mozzart Bet Cup champions, Nairobi United, secured it for their CAF Champions League clash against DR Congo’s Maniema FC on Sunday 30 November.

As required by CAF, Nairobi United had to book the facility for two days to allow the opponents to train on the pitch a day to the match.

While there was a possibility of having the Nyayo event organizers relinquish Saturday 29 November for the Mashemeji Derby, it proved impossible, forcing Gor Mahia to report to FKF that they had failed to secure a suitable venue.

The Mashemeji Derby, which is Kenya’s biggest club football fixture, brings together the two most successful and supported clubs in the country.

Ahead of the Derby, Gor Mahia had been enjoying a good run of form that included six wins in eight matches ,before suffering a shocking 4-1 defeat to the Mozzart-Bet powered APS Bomet.

Leopards, on the other hand ,have been on a bad run that has left the club on a three-match winless streak.

With the Derby having a new date, FKF is expected to rearrange the league fixtures to accommodate the new changes.
